Extension Activity-Dept. of B.Com B&I

The Department of B.Com Banking and Insurance and Global Institute, Coimbatore has arranged one day Environmental Study cum Extension Activity on 25.09.2019. The students were taken to Aadi Institute, Attapadi. The institute works for the welfare and development of Tribal people of Attapadi Area. The students were initially briefed about the various works that the institute endeavours. The students got to know about the current scenario of the tribal people and cultural ways and practices. The session was organised by the institute in the central circular meeting hall with an amphitheatre like space. The steps in the amphitheatre were completely done in broken mosaic by the locatribals. The broken mosaic pattern was designed in a way to feature the various elements of Attapadi. The session was very informative and eye opening for the students. After the session, the students had a small tea break. The Institute’s greenery had been worked on several years by intensive tree planting. The students also helped in this endeavour by planting saplings at the institute. Following this, the organisers honoured the department with the shield of recognition for the enthusiastic participation. The students then geared up for a trek on the campus. It was a small 3 km trek on the hills in the Institute boundary. Throughout the walk, the coordinators of the institute explained about geography and geology of the Attapadi area. It was a pleasant and informative experience for the students. After the trek, the students was served hot lunch by the Aadi Institute prepared by the Tribal staff. The remuneration for the lunch contributed by the students was intended for the tribal welfare. After a hearty lunch, the students bid goodbye and conveyed warm thanks to the Aadi coordinators and got ready for next stop – Biosphere Nature Park. The park is divided into various areas of eco-systems and in each particular area of eco-system. Many displays were kept featuring flora and fauna foound in that Eco-system. There were lots of maps explaining the Nilgiri biosphere range. There were interesting geological timelines demonstrating the evolution of the landscape and the fauna along with it. With this park visit, the one day EVS visit cum Extension programme ended up well. From the visit, the students were practically able to understand the dire situation of the environment and were also educated towards its sensitivity.
