Kongunadu Arts and Science College, a College with a difference introduced BSc Computer Science course in the year 1988, with an intake of 30 students, which has grown to 60 as on date. An additional section was introduced for the benefit of the students in the year 1999 with an intake of 40 students and now the strength is 60.
During the academic year 1994-95, the Department crossed another milestone with the introduction of the prestigious and most sought -after course, MCA. The student intake of 30 has now been enhanced to 60.
BCA programme was introduced in the academic year 2000-2001 with an intake of 40 students. The strength has since been increased to 60. An additional section in BCA was introduced in the academic year 2007-2008 with an intake of 50 students.
Keenly observing the explosive developments in the field of Information Technology, the visionaries of the College Management introduced 2 new courses namely, BSc Computer Technology (CT) with an intake of 50 students, and MSc Computer Technology with an intake of 25 students from the academic year 2007-08 to serve the student community in particular and the country in general.
BSc Information Technology (IT) was introduced with an intake of 50 students in the academic year 2008-09. PGDCA (Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications) was also introduced in the academic year 2008-2009 for the benefit of the students who are from other disciplines.
The Department also conducts Job Oriented Courses (JOC) and Career Oriented Programmes (COP), enabling the students to match global standards in their field.

Computer Center
The future champions of the IT field are being groomed at the KASC Computer Center. The Department boasts of a well-equipped computer center with state-of-the -art infrastructure. Totally there are 500 systems connected with various servers.
Global communication in the competitive business world has become essential as the introduction of electronic commerce and other web based applications has a greater impact today. The Department provides Internet access to all its students.
Library
The Library acts as a storehouse catering to the growing information needs in this knowledge era. The Library has a collection of 9500 text and reference books in various fields of computer science and is enriched by a number of national and international journals and magazines.
Placement
The Department collects information regarding career opportunities for fresh graduates. It provides information to the outgoing graduates about the availability of suitable employment opportunities and helps them to communicate with prospective employers to seek employment. The Department arranges campus interviews and employment tests periodically with various organizations for the final year students to get employment immediately after graduation.
Most of the students have passed with flying colours and have been placed in reputed software companies.
