One of the major departments in the college, the Department of Biotechnology started as an undergraduate department in 1996 and was upgraded to the postgraduate level in 2002. It became a full-fledged Research Department in 2003.
The students quench their thirst for knowledge under the guidance of 10 committed faculty members whose diverse research areas include Biochemistry, Microbiology, Bioprocess Technology, Plant Tissue Culture, Animal Tissue Culture, Bioinformatics and Pharmaceuticals. The general goal of the department is to serve the nation through advancement of knowledge through research and education of students in science and technology.

• The department has produced 344 BScs., 158 MScs, 8 MPhils., and 1 PhD., from the time of its birth.
• The enthusiastic and hard- working students of Biotechnology have brought fame to the department by securing 17 university ranks at the under-graduate level, bagging university first rank for three consecutive years. The MSc. students achieved 9 University ranks, of which two were university, obtained in different years. Most of our research scholars’ dissertations were graded as highly commendable.
